FRANCESCO LAMPERTI, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS (RTD A), JOINS EMBEDS

Francesco Lamperti has joined the Institute of Economics of the Sant’Anna School and EMbeDS as a non-tenure track Assistant Professor (RTD A) of Economics.

Francesco is also a scientist at the RFF-CMCC European Institute of Economics and the Environment based in Milan, and has previously been a Research Fellow at the Istitute of Economics of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and a Junior Researcher at the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei.

His research interests are mainly focused on macroeconomics, agent-based and integrated assessment modelling, climate change economics and the dynamics of natural disasters.

Francesco holds a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Economics from Bocconi University (Milan) and, in 2016, he obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa). In his doctoral thesis, titled “Climate Change and Macroeconomic Dynamics: a Complex System Perspective” he developed DSK, a global-scale agent-based integrated assessment model.

Francesco's research agenda aims to foster our understanding of climate impacts on economic activities through bottom-up approaches and, further, to design suitable policy solutions -- overcoming the focus on carbon taxation.

What are Francesco's plans for this new chapter of his academic career, in connection with the objectives of EMbeDS?

"So called Big Data (e.g. from satellite images and remote sensing) offer rich and challenging information on human activities, their localization and the structure of the surrounding environment."

"I will combine data from various sources to characterzie how economies react to changes in the climate and weather shocks."

"I will also make use of agent-based computational economics models to test a wide array of climate mitigation and adaptation policies."
